What is everyday jewelry?

I love everyday jewelry. I have a few (ok, maybe more than a few!) pieces beyond my wedding ring that are comfortable and easy to put on. They add a little extra something to my normal jeans and t-shits that I love so much.

Who doesn't want a little extra boost?

A few years ago I would have said, "I don't wear jewelry." and that was true, I also did all things in my yoga pants, hoodie, and sneakers. Getting dressed up was basically putting on a bra. I did not feel good about myself. I told myself I was a busy working mom. This is what we wear. I'm overweight, in the immortal words of Regina George, "Sweatpants are all that fit me right now."

But then COVID happened, and the world stopped.

Leaving the house became a little more special. I started wearing jeans again. Then, I added a few sweaters, instead of a hoodie. I organized the millions of jewelry pieces I have collected over the years. I made a hook thing, because I refused to spend a few hundred dollars on one. It turned out pretty good. about $15 worth of hooks and a cool piece of wood I found at my Grandpa's house.

Then I added my treasures...

The little tree holds my rings. Now, all my jewelry is accessible and it also adds a little "art" to my wall. I love it so much I put all my hats up next to them!

It's my stuff, it has memories.

Every time I see that coral necklace, I think of my Grandma Mike, and all her fabulousness. The earrings I got for bridesmaids gifts, the first necklace my husband gave me, and so on. It makes it quick to add a little something to my reliable jeans and t-shirts. I'm not some fashion icon, I'm writing this in sweatpants and mismatched fuzzy socks, but I do get dressed beyond putting on a bra now, and guess what?

I feel better about myself.

It's not all of it, but it's part. I have a "not dirty" laundry basket next to my bed that holds all my clothes because as soon as I get home the jeans come off, but for my errands, meetings, and softball games, I get dressed, in actual clothes (with zippers and buttons), I add jewelry. Still skip the makeup but I feel good without it. I feel more confident; to raise my hand, cheer louder, not fearful of running into a childhood friend at Safeway. My inside matches my outside, or at least I can "fake it till I make it" on days it doesn't.

I make everyday jewelry. It's easy to wear, pretty, and comfortable. Add a pair of earrings to jeans and a white T-shirt. Pair it with a middle finger wrapped ring. Add a long necklace to the tunic, yoga pants, and boots. I promise you'll feel a little more polished, people will ask what you are doing differently.

You will feel a little bit better.
